The institution is incorporated in the State of Michigan as a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation and approved by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to operate a nonpublic university in Michigan. WMed continues in good standing with the State of Michigan to own and operate an institution of higher learning. Students have the right to file a statement of complaint with the LARA Corporations, Securities, and Commercial Licensing Bureau.
Institutional Accreditation
WMed is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The Higher Learning Commission is one of six institutional accreditors in the US that accredits degree-granting post-secondary educational institutions. WMed is also approved to provide distance education courses to our students.
WMed has certification with the US Department of Education to participate in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 programs.
WMed has full accreditation granted by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), the national accrediting body for educational programs leading to the MD degree. The LCME determined that the medical school meets the standards outlined in the LCME document, Functions and Structure of a Medical School.
The medical school residency and fellowship programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
WMed has full accreditation granted by the AAALAC International Council on Accreditation, a recognition of the medical school’s commitment to setting, achieving, and maintaining high standards for animal care and use, and its commitment to animal welfare in science.
Continuing Education
In support of improving patient care, the medical school’s Office of Continuing Education (CE) is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide interprofessional continuing education for the healthcare team.
Patient Care
The primary care clinics at WMed Health - family medicine, internal medicine, medicine-pediatrics, and pediatrics - are recognized with the Patient-Centered Medical Home and Safety Net designation by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
The WMed Health Pediatric Multiple Disability Care practices is approved by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to provide Children’s Multidisciplinary Specialty Care.
The WMed Health Pediatric Autism Center is designated as an Approved Autism Evaluation Center (AAEC) by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network.
Research
The medical school’s Human Research Protection Program has full accreditation from the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs, a recognition that the medical school has demonstrated a commitment to building extensive safeguards into every level of its research operation and adheres to the highest standards for research with human participants.
Medical Examiner
The Office of the Medical Examiner has full accreditation from the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME). NAME is the professional organization of physician medical examiners, medicolegal death investigators, and death investigation system administrators who perform the official duties of the medicolegal investigations of deaths of public interest in the US. NAME accreditation program is a peer review system and has a goal to improve performance through objective evaluation and constructive criticism.
Simulation Center
The Simulation Center at WMed has full accreditation in the area of teaching/education granted by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), the largest healthcare simulation accrediting body in the world.
AHA Training Center
WMed is proud to be an active member of the American Heart Association (AHA) Training Network as an AHA Training Center helping to deliver Emergency Cardiac Care educational courses and to strengthen the chain of survival from cardiovascular diseases.
