The Office of Communication is dedicated to sharing news about WMed with the media and helping reporters connect with medical experts for stories on medicine and health care.
Contacting our office as early as possible will allow us to better meet media requests. But, when deadlines are tight, we will make every effort to get you the information and experts you need.
Print Media
Our office can offer supplemental background, provide timely access to researchers, physicians or faculty members and suggest additional sources if your first choice is unavailable.
Guidelines for TV/Video and Digital Media
Permission must be obtained from our office prior to any filming or recording on the medical school grounds. Upon request, we are happy to arrange for video crews to attend events, tape a live event or conduct interviews with faculty and staff members.
Once permission has been granted, we will make the necessary arrangements with campus security, provide parking information and help guide crews through the process of setting up a video shoot or radio spot on campus.
Photography Requests
Photographs of the medical school for publication are not permitted without prior authorization from our office. Contact us to arrange a photo shoot at any of our campus locations or to photograph members of our faculty, staff and physicians.

Public Accessibility
The medical education facility on the W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus at 300 Portage Street in downtown Kalamazoo is not a site for patient care. Access is limited to WMed students, residents, fellows, faculty, and staff, as well as those having scheduled business with the medical school. The WMed facility is not open to the general public. Throughout the year, WMed hosts scheduled community open house events that are open to the public, and those dates and times are posted on our website.

About Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine
WMed is committed to excellence and health equity through transformative medical education, high-quality patient- and family-centered care, innovative research, and community partnerships within a welcoming, supportive, and engaging culture. Our vision is health equity for all in Southwest Michigan through innovation in the practice and study of medicine. The medical school is a collaboration of Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo's two teaching health systems, Beacon Health System and Bronson Healthcare. As a private nonprofit corporation, WMed is supported by private gifts, clinical revenues, research activities, tuition, and endowment income. We offer the Doctor of Medicine degree and a Master of Science degree program in Biomedical Sciences. We train physicians in 10 accredited residencies and five fellowships. WMed Health is the clinical practice of the medical school with more than 300 providers offering comprehensive primary care and specialty services in locations throughout Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. The Department of Pathology members serve as the Office of the Medical Examiner for counties throughout Michigan and northern Indiana. The Center for Immunobiology, Center for Clinical Research, Research Histology Lab, Innovation Center, and Human Research Protection Program contribute to the medical school’s advancement of knowledge through innovation and discovery.
