WMed welcomes Fernanda Da Silva Lameira, MD, to the Department of Pathology

The medical school recently welcomed a new faculty member to the Department of Pathology. Fernanda Da Silva Lameira, MD, began her new role as an assistant professor of forensic pathology on August 3.

Dr. Da Silva Lameira earned her MD degree from the Universidade Federal de Ciencias da Saude de Porto Alegre in Brazil in 2003 and completed a two-year residency in Family Medicine. After residency, Dr. Da Silva Lameira worked as a physician in Brazil for more than 11 years.

After her time caring for patients in Brazil, Dr. Da Silva Lameira spent four years at Louisiana State University in New Orleans where she completed her residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology in 2023. She followed that up with one year of fellowship training in forensic pathology at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Most recently, Dr. Da Silva Lameira served as an Assistant Chief of Medical Examiner for the Virginia Department of Health from August 2024 to February 2026.

Dr. Da Silva Lameira is board certified in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology. 

Additionally, she is a member of the American Medical Association; American Society for Clinical Pathology; College of American Pathologists; National Association of Medical Examiners, and the United States and Canada Academy of Pathology. She has also authored several research publications and presentations.
