Kayla Grooters, MD, is a physician resident in the Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine. She is originally from Findlay, Ohio. She attended the Fredrick Meijer Honors College at Grand Valley State University, where she graduated in December 2021 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biomedical Science with a concentration in Microbiology. Prior to starting medical school, she worked as a cross-cultural worker along El Camino de Santiago with Greater Europe Mission in Viana, Spain. She received her Doctorate of Allopathic Medicine from Western Michigan University Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine in May 2026, with a distinction in global and public health. Dr. Grooters academic interests include global health, infection microbiology, and biofilms. During her medical school career, she has published multiple original research papers and review articles in the field of biofilm regulation and antibiotic resistance and has been cited over 100 times. In addition to her research, Dr. Grooters is deeply passionate about bioethics and the intersection of spirituality and medicine. She served on the board of trustees for the Christian Medical and Dental Association from 2025-2026 and continues to be actively involved with the organization. Her current career interests include combined infectious disease, transitional care, and missionary medicine.
