Two familiar faces that have gone through the ranks as a resident and fellow at WMed have rejoined the medical school as faculty members, ready to teach the next generation of physicians.

Cameron Schaecher, MD, and Nicolas Kostelecky, MD, became faculty members in July in the departments of Medicine and Pathology, respectively.

Dr. Schaecher is an alumnus of the University of Nebraska-Lincon where he graduated in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry. He earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2022 and completed an internal medicine residency at WMed this spring.

In July, Dr. Schaecher became an assistant professor in the medical school’s Department of Medicine. His clinical interests include medical education and resident research.

Dr. Kostelecky graduated magna cum laude from Boston University in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He earned his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland, in 2019.

Dr. Kostelecky went on to complete a residency in Anatomic Pathology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and a neuropathology fellowship at Northwestern University before joining WMed for a one-year forensic pathology fellowship in 2024.

In July, Dr. Kostelecky became an assistant professor in the medical school’s Department of Pathology. His clinical, teaching, and research interests include sequelae of traumatic brain injury and addressing equitable access to medical examiner services.
