Former Med-Peds resident welcomed as newest faculty member at WMed

A Kalamazoo physician who completed his residency training at WMed is the newest faculty member to join the medical school’s Department of Medicine.

Stephen L. McGinnis, DO, began his role as an assistant professor in January. He also sees patients at the WMed Health Internal Medicine clinic at the medical school’s Oakland Drive Campus and serves as medical director for medical school’s Office of Occupational Health.

Dr. McGinnis is an alumnus of Western Michigan University where he graduated in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science. After his time at WMU, Dr. McGinnis attended Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine where he earned his DO degree in 2011. He then returned to Kalamazoo and completed his residency training in Medicine-Pediatrics at WMed in 2015.

After residency, Dr. McGinnis was a pediatric hospitalist for the Bronson Pediatric Referral Service at Bronson Children’s Hospital from 2015 to 2022. During that same time he was also an internal medicine hospitalist for Bronson Internal Medicine and Hospital Specialists, a role he held until coming to the medical school.

Dr. McGinnis is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. He is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Pediatrics, the American College of Physicians, and the Society of Hospital Medicine.
