
The medical school recently welcomed a new faculty member to its Department of Investigative Medicine.
Hiroyuki Hirakawa, MD, PhD, began his new role at WMed on September 16 as an assistant professor of Immunology in the Department of Investigative Medicine. Dr. Hirakawa earned his MD degree in 2016 and his PhD in 2019, both from Tokyo Medical and Dental University in Tokyo, Japan.
Before coming to Kalamazoo, Dr. Hirakawa served as a postdoctoral research fellow at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York where, most recently, he completed the one-year Mandl Connective Tissue Research Fellowship at Columbia’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr. Hirakawa also completed previous fellowships with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and the Hehara Memorial Foundation. He has also authored several research publications.
