Biosketch

Mohamed Hussein, MD, is a resident physician in the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine. He attended medical school at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. He later went on to complete a fellowship in Trauma Research at Hurley Medical Center in conjunction with Michigan State University. During his time in medical school, he held multiple leadership positions and represented the university in national initiatives such as the Egyptian Youth Initiative, a collaboration between the Egyptian Ministry of Health, the National Population Council, and UNICEF. He also represented student interest at the Egyptian Trauma Society as the de facto medical student council president where he organized multiple student workshops at their annual conference. He is also a graduate of the EMRA/ACEP Leadership Academy. In addition, he was instrumental in founding the Student Council at the African Federation for Emergency Medicine which aims to provide students with exposure to emergency medicine as a specialty. He is also currently the Web Lead for the Trainee Special Interest Group at the International Federation for Emergency Medicine. Dr. Hussein has published multiple peer-reviewed articles and has presented at multiple international conferences. He maintains a variety of research interests which include trauma, critical care, health systems, and global health. He is interested in pursuing a career in global emergency medicine with a focus on systems development.
