Biosketch

Gerrit J. Bouma, PhD, received his undergraduate (BSc) degree from the Van Hall Institute in the Netherlands, with an emphasis on environmental toxicology. After working as a visiting research scientist at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, he completed his PhD in Zoology (Reproductive Physiology) at the University of Idaho and postdoctoral training at the Jackson Laboratory, in Bar Harbor, Maine. He accepted a faculty position at Colorado State University in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, where he acquired more than 15 years of experience in academic teaching and research in biomedical sciences. He has an extensive background in undergraduate and graduate student advising, course development, and teaching pre-medical and pre-veterinary students in biomedical sciences. In addition to teaching, he developed a successful federally funded research program in reproductive physiology and managed a multimillion-dollar research grant portfolio. His teaching interests include renal and gastrointestinal physiology, reproductive physiology, endocrinology, and STEM communication, and has a passion for training students in biomedical sciences.
