
A physician who completed a one-year fellowship in forensic pathology at the medical school in June 2021 is among two faculty members who recently joined WMed.
Jared Brooks, MD, became an assistant professor May 1 in WMed’s Department of Pathology. Dr. Brooks earned his MD at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He went on to complete a residency in anatomic pathology at the University of California at Irvine before completing a fellowship in forensic pathology at WMed. Along with his assistant professor title, Dr. Brooks serves as an assistant medical examiner for the Office of the Medical Examiner within the medical school’s Department of Pathology.
As he begins his tenure at WMed, Dr. Brooks is being joined by Patrick Hansma, DO, who started May 1 as an assistant professor in the Department of Pathology. Dr. Hansma earned his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his anatomic and clinical pathology residency at William Beaumont Hospital, then went on to complete a forensic pathology fellowship with the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Prior to joining WMed, Dr. Hansma served as a deputy medical examiner for Genesee County, then as a deputy medical examiner for Eaton, Ingham, Ionia, Isabella and Shiawassee counties.
