Biosketch
Matt Longjohn, MD MPH, is a graduate of Kalamazoo College. He earned his medical and public health degrees from Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Northwestern University, Chicago, before joining the faculty there as a researcher, organizer, instructor, and advocate.
Dr. Longjohn has spent most of the past 25 years as a non-profit executive, leading organizations to research and address preventable health risks. He served as the VP and National Health Officer at YMCA of the USA, where he directed nearly $100 million of research and public health grants. His work establishing the Diabetes Prevention Program as a new benefit under Medicare led to historic outcomes and new benefits to 23 million Americans. The Obama Administration identified Dr. Longjohn as one of the nation's top health care innovators. At WMed, Dr. Longjohn Co-Directs the Engagement and Discovery course, and serves as a Co-Investigator on the AAMC-funded FRAME Project (Facing Racism as Medical Education).
