Biosketch
Dr. Gibb is an associate professor and co-Chair of the Department of Medical Ethics, Humanities, and Law. He completed a clinical ethics fellowship at University of California‐Los Angeles, Health System Ethics Center, where he studied under Dr. James Hynds. Prior to that, he completed his PhD in Health Care Ethics from Saint Louis University. His dissertation was a biopolitical deconstruction of the Terri Schiavo case, mentored by Dr. Jeffrey Bishop. He also obtained a law degree (JD) with a certification in Health Law from the Saint Louis University School of Law, where he was the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Health Law and Policy. His undergraduate studies were in Political Science and Medical Anthropology.
Dr. Gibb’s research is interdisciplinary and wide-ranging. He has authored dozens of peer-reviewed publications on the intersection of health law and medicine. Including publications in the New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, CHEST, Journal of Medical Ethics, and Journal of Medical Humanities. He examines the intersection of health law and clinical ethics, medical narratology, the politics of medicine, medical education pedagogy, and professional misconduct and professionalism in healthcare.
His teaching experience includes coursework in clinical ethics at the undergraduate and graduate level, in nursing and medical schools, and at the GME level. He regularly speaks at international and national academic conferences, and has extensive hands‐on experience in clinical ethics consultation over the last decade.
