Dr. Amy Gyorkos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine. She serves as Course Director for Cardiovascular Systems and Co-Discipline Director of Anatomy in the Foundations curriculum, where she contributes to the design, delivery, and assessment of anatomy and clinically integrated medical education.
Dr. Gyorkos’ scholarly work focuses on anatomy education, active learning, clinical integration, design thinking, and creativity in health professions education. Her recent work explores educational strategies that help students move beyond memorization toward reasoning, conceptual understanding, and transfer of knowledge. Across her teaching, scholarship, and professional development work, she is especially interested in human-centered and creative designs that support meaningful learning, faculty growth, and educational innovation.
Dr. Gyorkos is actively involved in service at WMed and within national professional organizations. She serves on WMed’s Research Committee, the International Association of Medical Science Educators Professional Development Committee, and the American Association for Anatomy Committee for Early-Career Anatomists. Through her teaching, scholarship, mentoring, and service, she aims to advance innovative approaches to anatomy and medical education.
